one of the first all-female crews stationed at thorpe abbotts. coming from all different walks of life, they have a common bond in their desire to make a name for themselves. however, with the 100th out of favour, they have to do more than survive. they need to shine.

BALL TURRET GUNNER
five foot nothing of protective rage. was in training to be a nun before joining the air force. forever getting emotionally involved in spite of herself.
NAVIGATOR
born into a wealthy family and orphaned young. was ill as a child and spent most of her time growing up in a hospital. now trying to catch up on the life she's missed. bright, curious, and fond of books.
WAIST GUNNER
comes from a sprawling family with a less than stellar reputation. trying to make her own way in the world. brilliant storyteller, loves colourful clothes. determined, independent, empathetic.
TOP TURRET GUNNER/CREW CHIEF
the forgotten child of socialite parents. good at anything involving mechanics, painfully awkward in social situations. has permanently smudged glasses.
TAIL GUNNER
former jazz singer. spent her childhood moving from one con to another, and even now finds it hard to stop pretending. friendly but keeps most people at a distance. always dressed impeccably.
WAIST GUNNER
daughter of a washed up movie star escaping the bright lights of hollywood. unable to sing but can play almost any instrument. aloof and callous - until she isn't.
BOMBARDIER
a rancher's daughter who came to england on a mission after her brothers went MIA. excellent shot. blunt, hard-working, stubborn.
RADIO OPERATOR
from texas. husband is a paratrooper who went MIA early on in the war. has a baby girl. bubbly, great storyteller, loves bright colours.
MEDIC
farmer's son, middle child with ten siblings. joined the army looking for adventure. signed up for the sas after a bad experience with his former regiment. constantly getting sunburned, always tired. loves plants. wary but protective of those he cares about.
SNIPER
london boy, brought up in an orphanage. lied about his age to join the army, was in three different regiments before joining the sas. very tall and very touch-starved. loves birds and the sea.
FREE FRENCH
the older son of a wealthy parisian family. joined the paratroopers after the invasion of france. keeps a journal and writes poetry in his free time, big fan of greek mythology. clumsy and occasionally oblivious because of his privilege, but tries really hard. kind in spite of everything.
PARTISAN
from termoli, the older son of the family who runs the laundry. joins the sas unofficially after his home gets blown up. sunshine boy who loves all things movies, oranges, and summer. can climb just about anything. severely claustrophobic.
LRDG
grew up in a small village in ireland. has a mother and little brother. forced to leave and join the army after an "incident" he refuses to talk about. fascinated by anything mechanical. has a fierce temper and a heart too big for his chest, pretends not to care while caring so much he feels he might die from it.
PARATROOPER
born on the same day and in the same village as ruairi, but no relation. raised by his grandparents. joined the army with ruairi after the "incident". loves carving. doesn't really speak around people he doesn't know. both terrified of and fascinated by fire, believes himself to be much more broken than he is.
REPLACEMENT
midwestern boy. illegitimate child whose mother died giving birth to him. ran away to join the paratroopers shortly after the war started, was assigned to the special replacement unit. shy and easily startled, just wants people to like him. doesn't like talking about home.
REPLACEMENT
from queens. spent a few years on the streets before joining the paratroopers. officially registered as an aide even though he's assigned to the SRU. likes music. pretty, manipulative, and severely traumatised.
